Newsletter from Arts for Good Foundation - February 2022
Welcome to the February 2022 newsletter from Arts for Good Foundation. As Hong Kong is being hit hard by COVID-19, we are reflecting on the value of time and the value of change for our future. Every challenge is a gift, and every experience is a blessing.  Through the good work of Arts for Good Foundation, we aim to deliver creative and value-driven learning experiences to students in Hong Kong in order to broaden their perspectives and collaborate to make positive changes for our society.

Story of Hong Kong: A Story on a Piece of Leased Land

Continuing with our Story of Hong Kong - A Story on a Piece of Leased Land  project, we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Artist Justin Hui with his on-going "New Territories" project and his works from Ma Shi Po village this month.   

Story of Hong Kong aims to make Hong Kong's history and villagers' lives relevant for our future generations. In this process, we aim to help carry forward our indigenous culture through multiple creative mediums while also strengthening local cultural identities and instilling historical and global perspectives for Hong Kong students.

Through researching the culture of the New Territories  via literature and oral traditions, documenting villagers' family stories, and imagining their lives through the narratives of the objects left behind when they are being evicted, we are creating a deeper meaning of "New Territories" by combining the past and looking to the future.

With "New Grounds" (after the eviction) and new ways of thinking, we are creating opportunities for Hong Kong students to better understand our indigenous culture, and gain deeper appreciation of the transitions and changes Hong Kong has been undergoing. These frames of reference will subsequently broaden their perspectives on the ever-changing metropolis we live in and beyond.  
 
What We Mean by Diversity and Inclusion

We are thankful that Dream Impact has featured Arts for Good Foundation as part of its Art and Heritage Month and the Dream Metaverse platform. Our interpretation of diversity is the diversity of our cultural identities in Hong Kong. From this perspective, social inclusion means fostering diverse perspectives, nurturing ethical and respectful minds towards our cultural differences, and strengthening common cultural identities by educating our future generations.

History and heritage are part of us. By learning and appreciating our shared past via the beauty of art, our future generations can draw lessons from how our past give birth to our present, and gain insights on how the present lay a foundation for a different future with shared values in our community.

Art viewing and art making are alternative forms of social engagement that involves deep reflection and creative expression. In this process, imagination crosses boundaries and can inspire hope in young people. Arts for Good Foundation aims to deliver value-driven art viewing learning experiences to students from upper primary to secondary, in the process, to embed common cultural identities through heritage, history and arts .
 
Seeking Collaborating Artists

We are deeply thankful for the continued venue sponsorship from The Mills. Our next art making project is scheduled from 1st August to 5th August 2022 at the Annex at the Mills.

We are currently seeking artist(s) to collaborate with us for a five-day art making session.  We are open to any creative mediums with the hope of creating new understanding of textile arts and bringing new perspectives and understanding about people's lives, community, and/or the changes in Hong Kong. We are also open to other creative ideas and narratives that could contribute to this collaboration. Please Email us if interested. 
 
NFT Artworks on OpenSea
Press Release (English and Chinese)

Our first NFT collection highlights three themes, namely “Journey of Reflection 2021”, “Community Engagement Artworks” and “Student Individual Works”.  The "Student Individual Works"  comprises a collection of artworks created by Hong Kong students (aged 14 - 22), who have strong insights on the changes in Hong Kong. These young artists are sensitive to the themes that are currently impacting people's lives and our community, and are emerging as powerful storytellers and dreamers for the future of Hong Kong. We continue to receive artworks from students and selected works could be minted as part of this collection. Please Email us if interested. 

The intention of minting these student works as NFTs is to give our future generations room to imagine, to dream about how their world can be different in the future, and to make their voices heard on  a new platform. More importantly, we are also promoting our unique interpretation of diversity and inclusion for our future through this new platform.
