Newsletter from Arts for Good Foundation - August 2024
Welcome to the August 2024 newsletter of the Arts for Good Foundation. This month, I would like to express our special gratitude to the 16 youths from four universities who were the key manpower for our research and training internship this summer. They were tasked with venturing into different neighbourhoods to collect visual and cultural records of Hong Kong, conducting interviews with diverse individuals from various communities, and carrying out  research to support our various ongoing projects. I deeply appreciate the content, research and interpretation these youth talents contributed to. Their support has enhanced our capacity to curate meaningful, sensory-rich and content-rich learning experiences for  younger generations in Hong Kong.

I look forward to forging further collaborations with major institutions to support Arts for Good's ongoing research and development and community outreach efforts on our shared journey of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Best regards,
Amanda H Sun

Story of Hong Kong: CityUHK CLASS Digital Storytelling Project

We are pleased to announce the completion of visual content research and collection for the CityUHK CLASS storytelling project.  Five student teams crafted a range of stories which celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the City University of Hong Kong. The stories adopt a range of formats, encompassing game design, an illustrated artwork entitled "CityUHK Under the Lion Rock", a digital mosaic photography wall composed of diverse culture elements in Hong Kong, a series of video production of "CityUHK Hero", a documentary on youth mental health, and diversity themed carpet art creation.

We extend our gratitude to Cyberport, The WEMP Foundation, New Home Association, Sham Shui Po District Council, and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Group (HKFYG) for their content support throughout the process. We firmly believe this has been a very valuable learning experience for the participating students and eagerly anticipate showcasing the projects.

English Poetry and Art Integrated Learning Workshops at Caritas Mok Cheung Sui Kun Community Center

We are pleased to announce that our English Learning Support via Arts Integrated Learning with Hong Kong Poetry* initiative was successfully launched at the Caritas Mok Cheung Sui Kun Community Center in August. In collaboration with The Department of English, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), we delivered five workshops for 14 children (aged 9-12) at the community center. The workshops integrate visual imagination, acting and poetry to enhance their English learning experience.

This represents another creative integrated community outreach effort by Arts for Good Foundation. We take pride in the interest we  sparked among the 14 beneficiaries and the positive shifts we witnessed in their attitude towards learning English and poetry through visual expression and articulation. Moving forward, we are dedicated to continuing our collaborative efforts with the Department of English, CUHK to inspire and empower more younger generations, especially those from less privileged backgrounds, through meaningful, integrated, and sensory-rich  learning experiences with the arts.

Better City, Better Life: Along the River During Qingming Festival with Hong Kong City Walk (Kwun Tong)

We are thrilled that our upcoming project "Better City, Better Life: Along the River During Qingming Festival with Hong Kong City Walk" has been approved for implementation in two schools in the Kowloon East during the coming academic year. We will tailor the project specifically for these two schools, focusing on the visual landscape in Kwun Tong.

We are dedicated to continuing to advance  Research and Development for this project, with the goal of eventually covering it to all 18 districts in Hong Kong. We hope to receive additional support from various stakeholders to ensure the success of the project in the years to come.

Arts for Good Foundation 2024
