Arts for Good Foundation Newsletter
March 2026

Welcome to the March 2026 newsletter from the Arts for Good Foundation. This month, in celebration of International Women's Day, I am pleased to support a printmaking exhibition organized by artists Lilin and Jiney. Their long-standing advocacy for amplifying women's voices has had a growing impact across diverse communities in Hong Kong and beyond, spanning Southeast Asia.

It is truly exciting that this exhibition has brought together over 38 women creators from cities including Manila, Hong Kong, Sabah, Shizuoka, Changsha, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Taipei, Guangzhou, New York, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Perth, and Helsinki. Each contributor brings her unique life story and cross-cultural experience to the project, weaving a rich tapestry of shared struggles, growth, and meaningful social, emotional, and spiritual connections within a space dedicated to women.

Over ten days in Sham Shui Po, the exhibition welcomed a warm crowd of visitors and hosted eight cultural events, including screenings, karaoke sessions, poetry readings, and community workshops. Women from the local community actively participated, sharing personal stories through their artworks, which were displayed in the space alongside other invited contributions. It is truly inspiring to witness the diverse roles they play within their communities and families and to see a platform that uplifts voices from all walks of life.

Focusing on women's creative production and its deeper meanings, the exhibition is filled with powerful narratives that provoke thought and emotion. It also prompts important questions: how do we value resilience, the spirit of co-learning and the positive energy and drive demonstrated by diverse talents? How can we better recognize and support these intangible qualities in talent development, especially among young people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, women on different life stages, and other marginalized or disadvantaged community members.

Kind Regards,

Short Film: Eileen Chang in Retro
Cinematic Stories: Behind Hong Kong Street Signs

Last year, we launched the "Cinematic Hong Kong Street Storytelling" project. The initiative reimagines Hong Kong street signs not just as navigational aids, but as vivid storytellers of the city's rich history, resilience, transformation, beauty and adaptability at the crossroads of East and West.

This month, we produced two short films with young adults from HKU's Creative Communication program and St. James Settlement Women FutureMakers Employment program. This creative process was carefully curated as a learning journey of reaction, reconnection, retelling, and rethinking, fostering deeper reflection on "where we stand" and "how we respond" amid ongoing uncertainties and challenges.

One of the featured films, "Eileen Chang In Retro", follows renowned Chinese-American writer Eileen Chang (張愛玲) during her time in Hong Kong in the Second World War. Drawing on her classic works and visual memories of places such as HKU, High Street, and Repulse Bay, the film offers a poignant narrative that tap into our shared visual and emotional connections to the city. Eileen's exquisite and lyrical prose vividly captures Hong Kong's urban landscape and her deep emotional ties to its people, both before she left and after she returned.

We are excited to continue curating a diverse collection of Hong Kong stories, each shaped by the unique perspectives and inner voices of our young storytellers and the city's evolving civic landscape. We believe that this growing body of work will inspire our current creative teams and future participants and beneficiaries of the project.

歡迎閱讀 Arts for Good Foundation 2026年的3月通訊。
