Arts for Good 2025
Welcome to the January 2025 newsletter of the Arts for Good Foundation. This month, I am delighted to share our interpretation of resilience in an education context, focusing on creating new possibilities with shared values for the betterment of our society.

As we reflect on the new year, we are incredibly proud of the journey Arts for Good Foundation has taken as it enters its fifth year.  One highlight has been The Calligraphy Education Project, which took place in the HK Trams in 2022 and led to the discovery of a seal script in Sai Wan. This project was successful, having a positive impact on young participants from three NGOs and schools.

We are committed to curating more meaningful and beautiful learning experiences for Hong Kong’s younger generations. We deeply believe that nurturing and inspiring young eyes to see and experience beauty and capture goodness, can create positive change and contribute to the betterment of our community and society.

During the Chinese New Year holiday, just like the agile movement of snakes rising through the clouds, we wish everyone abundance and prosperity.

Best regards,
Amanda H Sun

Better City, Better Life: “Along the River During Qingming Festival - Kwun Tong”
Part 2: Kwun Tong Maryknoll College

We are excited to announce the launch of the second part of our “Along the River During Qingming Festival - Kwun Tong Chapter" project. This is our second collaboration with Kwun Tong Maryknoll College (KTMC). Over the course of twelve days in February and March, we will engage over 130 students (aged 14-15) in a collaborative process to co-create stories of Kwun Tong. Drawing inspiration from the timeless classic scroll “Along the River During Qingming Festival”, this project will inspire the young students to imagine fresh possibilities and reinterpret the essence of their daily life experiences and their thoughts and feelings about living in Kwun Tong.

Our aim is to provide KTMC students with a learning experience that embraces multiple perspectives by reinterpreting Kwun Tong through the lens of the classic Chinese painting. Our goal is to guide students towards an enriched contextual understanding of their neighborhood with various visual elements in their daily lives that may be overlooked. We want to enable them to articulate their thoughts on “change” and “resilience” through the creative “rethinking” process. We also plan to to create a few collaborative artworks for the school that incorporate the students’s unique and diverse interpretations of the classic painting and its relevance to their lives.

 Creative Exploration for Social Impact
 Through a New Art Form:
Seal Carving (篆刻)

One of the core spirits of Arts for Good is our commitment to being a highly creative and collaborative organization that engages young generations, prompting them to explore new possibilities for the betterment of our society. In the past four years, we have successfully connected younger generations and community members through a wide array of art forms such as Textile, Textile Performance Art, Indian Folk Art, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Illustration, Printmaking (etching and woodcut), Photography, Installation, Sound Art, Poetry, Collage, and Documentaries and Short Films.

We firmly believe that the arts, in their various forms, act as a catalyst that shapes the perspectives and values that younger generations adopt on their personal and professional journeys. More importantly, these art projects have engaged young artists and individuals from the Philippines, India, Mainland China, Hong Kong, USA, UK, Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal and other countries. We believe Arts for Good are creating beautiful stories of Hong Kong that are contributing to a more diverse and inclusive future for the city.

In 2025, we are embarking on a fresh creative exploration and learning journey in collaboration with seal carving artist Cheng Qian and three master degree's students specializing in seal carving at the China Academy of Art. Taking into account the distinct artistic, educational, historical, and social values that seal carving integrates, our exploration centers on its meanings to Hong Kong and its significance for younger generations. Additionally, we aim to investigate the significance of seal carving for youths and explore how it can drive sustainability in the Hong Kong's social context.

We are actively seeking partnerships to drive meaningful learning experiences and achieve creative outcomes. As in all of our creative endeavours, our ultimate goal is to nurture and empower younger generations to contribute to Hong Kong’s role as the East and West Culture Hub by fostering a shared sense of inclusivity through meaningful, sensory-rich, expressive, and reflective learning experiences with the arts.

Arts for Good 2025
歡迎閱讀Arts for Good Foundation 2025年1月的通訊。
