'Walls Between Us"
Arts-Integrated Learning Support in English and Creative Writing
We are thrilled to have concluded the third round of the Arts-Integrated Learning Support in English and Creative Writing Project with seven interns and two returning volunteers. We are immensely proud of our young collaborators, who joined us from various disciplines and worked collaboratively with us to deliver the interactive, creative, and enjoyable project "Walls Between Us" for 37 students aged 9 to 13 at two NGO community centers.
"Walls Between Us" aims to explore and convey multicultural perspectives through the visual motifs of walls in Nigeria, the USA, Germany, Mainland China, and Hong Kong. By examining the concept of walls - both physical and metaphorical - the project seeks to foster understanding and dialogue across different cultures and communities while enhancing the English language and creative writing skills of frontline NGO beneficiaries.
The beauty of the arts-integrated learning approach lies in its accessibility, particularly for students with diverse learning needs and levels. By employing simple language and vivid imagery, we engage them in hands-on experiences that connect them with the language, supporting their learning while tapping into their feelings and fostering creative expression.
This project has once again strengthened our belief in our integrated approach. More importantly, the learning process encourages creative thinking and unique expression while nurturing imagination and creativity in an inclusive and caring manner. Under the relatively flexible structure, we are pleased to see students more confident in expressing themselves in English and demonstrating increasingly positive attitudes towards learning, as we continue to foster deeper emotional connections and promote inclusivity throughout the artistic projects.
