"Beneath The Sun, Once Again" Trailer
Youth Mental Health Documentary 2024
the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences,
City University of Hong Kong
Welcome to the November 2024 newsletter of the Arts for Good Foundation. This month, I am honored to serve on the judging panel for the Creative Communication student projects at the School of English of The University of Hong Kong and to take on the role of supervisor for students' Happiness Projects. In addition, I am delighted to be one of the judges for the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

It is a constant pleasure to witness the incredible creativity these young students invest in their creative and social impact initiatives. Working with young people is a continuous learning process which enables us to develop deeply meaningful social impact endeavours through and with the arts. We aim to empower youth to navigate the complex social landscapes with new perspectives, and leverage creative thinking to make positive contributions to local and global communities.

"Beneath the Sun, Once Again"
Youth Mental Health Documentary

According to recent estimates by university researchers, over 55,000 Hong Kong residents are projected to experience depression each year. It is anticipated that addressing this widespread condition will incur an annual cost of HK$2.51 billion for the city until 2032 (SCMP, 1 November 2024).

"Beneath the Sun, Once Again" is a documentary created by a group of youths based on their real-life experiences. This short film aims to uplift the well-being of their peers in Hong Kong. Arts for Good strongly believes in and advocates for the importance of art and storytelling as integral parts of youth development, with a central relevant focus on local communities that is firmly rooted in Hong Kong's broader creative context. This approach enable us to collaborate with young people to address real societal issues through the lens of true life stories.

We support young individuals, empowering them to share their personal narratives. Our aim is to enrich lives with deeper meanings, to embrace the power of hope, and to recognise the significance of serving others. We strive to integrate art into holistic personal development and various learning experiences, foster a sense of belonging, and explore societal and humanitarian issues through macro and micro visual lens. We believe that creative process itself ultimately facilitates purpose-driven career development and diverse life experiences and perspectives.

In a broader sense, this integrated approach contributes to the well-being of individuals and communities, as well as to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging for the good of our future.

English Creative Writing through Arts Outreach to Community Center

We are delighted to have delivered the "Integrated Art Creation to Support English Learning" for the first group of beneficiaries from the Caritas Mok Cheung Sui Kun Community Center. We have all been impressed by the time and effort that the student volunteers from the Department of English of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have invested in this meaningful community service.

According to a recent territory-wide assessment, the English proficiency of secondary pupils has reached a record low in 20 years due to the learning disruptions caused by the pandemic (SCMP, 3rd Nov 2024). Arts for Good is dedicated to supporting students' English learning by leveraging visual creativity to unleash thier boundless imagination. We guide university volunteers through creative and stress-free learning process, and equip them to support younger students expanding and connecting their English learning and creative writing based on the visual images they create or encounter in day-to-day life.

We strongly believe that an enjoyable student-centered learning environment can foster a love for English language learning, encouraging young students to express their ideas and emotions in English. At the same time, we support them to experience the joy of unfettered creative freedom in the absence of the pressure of being graded.

歡迎閱覽Arts for Good Foundation 本年度11月份的通訊。
