Welcome to our December 2025 newsletter. This month, we are delighted to introduce a new cohort in our youth manpower team. We are excited to embark on our partnership with the St. James' Settlement Women Futuremakers Employment Program, welcoming new women future-makers to our team.

Our commitment to engaging young people from diverse cultural, demographic, and educational backgrounds remains steadfast. We strive to empower them through a guided co-creation process, inspiring positive change collaboratively through and with the arts. By fostering multi-perspective thinking and reflective creative processes, we support the growth and development of the young people, empowering them to become wholehearted change makers in their communities throughout their various career pursuits.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Arts for Good Foundation. It has been deeply rewarding to hear from many of our past students as they share updates on their career journeys. I am especially moved by the sincere thank-you messages from hitherto disadvantaged beneficiaries of our earlier programs, who have started careers in major cultural organizations or in art-related commercial sectors. Their development and life-changing stories continue to inspire us to champion upward mobility of young people from less privileged backgrounds, helping them find hope, pursue their dreams, and create lasting change through the arts.

Before we set out on our next adventure in 2026, we extend our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year to all.

Kind Regards,

Amanda H Sun

City Script: Calligraphy in Light and Sound
Calligraphy Education Project

The Calligraphy Education Project that we developed in 2022 in collaboration with higher education students, volunteers from professional fields, and young artists, continues to create meaningful social impact. With a renewed approach, we are bringing the project to life for The Hong Kong Family Welfare Society Women and Family Enhancement Centre, benefiting eight pairs of primary school students and their silver-age partners, in support of HKFWS's mission to promote cross-generational connection and inclusivity.

Through this new storytelling perspective, we beautifully situate Chinese calligraphy within the context of Hong Kong’s own signage calligraphy. This explores its history and transformation to reawaken the sentimental memories of silver-age participants. We look to inspire primary-age students to appreciate the unique beauty of Chinese calligraphy, which artificial intelligence and machine-printed characters simply cannot replicate.

By experiencing a calligraphy learning process within civic life experiences such as tram rides, fresh markets, tea houses, and pawnshops, we encourage all learners to:

1). broaden their understanding of Chinese calligraphy's deep relevance to everyday civic life;
2). strengthen their connection to calligraphy alongside family members of different generations;
3). gain inspiring insights into the evolution of Hong Kong’s unique calligraphy font; and
4). foster an appreciation for the calligraphy's distinctive black-and-white aesthetics, celebrating its power to reveal personality, style, and interpretative richness.

Hong Kong Land Foundation
Pictographic Creation with Oracle Bone Script 2025

We are delighted to introduce our new initiative, Pictographic Creation with Oracle Bone Script 2025, to the Hong Kong Land Foundation. Thirty Hong Kong Land volunteers explored creative ways to reimagine Christmas greetings through this distinctive art form. Each participant created a unique artwork through engraving and printmaking, which was then thoughtfully framed and presented as a special Christmas gift to families facing challenges within our community. These printmaking pieces have the power not only to brighten the festive season but also carry messages of warmth and hope that endure beyond the holidays.

Our storytelling celebrates the vibrant essence of life and the enduring relevance of Oracle Bone Script in the modern era. By highlighting the historical evolution of the Chinese characters, we reveal how these pictographic forms convey deep emotions and capture everyday stories. It has been inspiring to witness the learning journeys of the participants as they formed personal connections with the oracle bone script during the creative process. Their interpretations and creations have transformed into meaningful artworks and heartfelt Christmas messages. We hope these contributions will continue to inspire our community to embrace the spirit and significance of this art form, while also celebrating the rich diversity of individual creativity and interpretation.

We deeply value the culture of co-learning and co-creation for the greater good. Building on this co-creative experience, we remain committed to expanding the unique project, bringing its benefits to more individuals and amplifying its positive impact within our community.

今年是Arts for Good Foundation 成立五周年

1. 拓寬對中國書法的認知,體悟其與日常城市生活的緊密關聯;
2. 與不同年代的家庭成員一同深化對書法的情感聯結;
3. 深入了解香港獨特書法字體的演變歷程;
