"Story of Hong Kong" Series: Body Diversity and Inclusion
We are delighted to continue our Story of Hong Kong Series with a documentary about Christy Cheung. Made possible through our collaboration with the HKU-Guild and the HKU-MACC, the documentary shares how Christy survived and thrived after battling breast cancer at the age of 33. She has since committed herself to exploring new meanings for the idea of a perfect body through Pherfect Creative Foundation, her newly-founded charity. By supporting her, we hope to raise awareness of body diversity and inclusion, particularly for those who have undergone dramatic changes due to various life experiences.
In addition, we are excited to work with eight Year 11 students from the Chinese International School (CIS) in May to create a second documentary about Rabi Yim, which will be showcased to all Y10 and Y11 students at CIS. The documentary will showcase how Rabi has thrived in her life in a wheelchair in Hong Kong after losing her two legs when she moved from Paris to Hong Kong.
The aim of these two documentaries is to educate participating youths about how to approach life positively and help them learn new perspectives on how to engage with adversity. Furthermore, they aim to focus on those in Hong Kong with different physical conditions, sharing new perspectives and challenging the homogenising images of "perfection" that is often portrayed via social media. Through the documentary-making process, we also aim to cultivate ethical and respectful mindsets towards people with various body conditions and to inspire the creators and viewers to live a beautiful and meaningful lives filled with positivity and energy.
Additionally, we hope to host fireside chats and documentary screenings for primary and secondary school students in schools and NGOs. Our goal is to inspire the younger generations to embrace their true selves and explore new possibilities.
