Welcome to the November 2025 newsletter of the Arts for Good Foundation. This month, I am honored to serve on the mentoring and judging panel for the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge (HKSEC). HKSEC is a social venture startup competition organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As the first and most enduring inter-institutional competition, HKSEC inspires young people to adopt innovative entrepreneurial approaches to address real-world social challenges. I find it truly inspiring to see young individuals channel their energy and creativity into social impact entrepreneurship and help shape a brighter future in Hong Kong.
Engaging with the youth through social entrepreneurship platforms remains a source of learning and inspiration for me. Their aspirations to do social good reinforce my dedication to advocating for Arts for Good. Particularly, I hope to work together with the parallel initiatives of Tech for Good and Business for Good, supported by a number existing platforms in Hong Kong. We strongly believe that the integration of Arts for Good, Tech for Good, and Business for Good will have a sustainable social impact among and for young people.
Artistic thinking processes and the spirit of creativity are vital parts of social entrepreneurship, which frequently starts and continues with extremely limited resources. It then faces significantly longer and more difficult journeys as it seeks financial stability.
The arts foster expansive vision and imagination, nurture empathy, inspire people-centered ideas and work ethics to establish trust and collaboration. As importantly, the arts nurture unique ability to perceive beauty, resulting in the creation of distinctive values and meaningful value propositions within social business model.
In practical terms, arts and community outreach endow young people with holistic wellbeing, positive values and essential human skills, such as storytelling, perspective-taking, transcultural communication, and creative execution with creative problem-solving.
Resilience lies at the heart of all the great arts and artistic practices, and serves as a critical factor of the success of social entrepreneurship. I am committed to continuing to advocate for an integrated approach - through and with the arts - for sustainable social impact and youth development.
