Story of Hong Kong Series: Daughters of Canton Delta
We are thrilled by the great success of the opening of our exhibition, "Daughters of Canton Delta" which attracted over 160 attendees from various regions, both in person and online. We would like to express our gratitude for the support and promotion extended by the University of Chicago's Hong Kong campus and the University of Chicago's Beijing Office. In addition, the South China Morning Post featured our exhibition and the related public event in the SCMP online (Arts and Culture Section) and printout (Society Section) editions on 19th January 2024 (Link Here).
We would like to quote the following comment from the leader of a Hong Kong NGO who attended the event:
I am still enveloped in the profound emotional resonance left by the exhibition last night. Your passion for weaving such an impactful narrative through art, illuminating facets of Hong Kong's rich history, culture, and the fundamental contributions of domestic workers from the 19th century, was nothing short of remarkable. It was a poignant reminder of the strength and resilience that is woven into the fabric of our society.
Hong Kong has an abundance of individuals with extraordinary life experiences that are frequently overlooked. These experiences paint a beautiful tapestry of our cultural diversity and our interconnectivity with the broader region and the world. Social inclusion requires celebrating this diversity and embracing diverse perspectives when interpreting Hong Kong. It is crucial to understand where these interpretations come from and why they hold significance for Hong Kong. Arts for Good is dedicated to furthering our Story of Hong Kong series as we advocate for diversity and inclusion, and fostering ethical mindsets that respect and value our differences, all for the betterment of our future.
