Newsletter from Arts for Good Foundation - November 2022
Welcome to the November newsletter of Arts for Good Foundation. This month, I would like to extend a note of thanks to Social Venture Hong Kong (SVHK) for arranging a two-week "work-ation" for me to work alongside their Purpose Capital team. Aside from the networking opportunities, I sincerely appreciate the coaching and sharing sessions with professionals working in the Purpose Capital. The new insights I gained throughout the "work-ation" are truly useful for my role. This experience has inspired me to imagine the extent of the potential for value-based and purpose-driven social enterprises to have a positive impact on the social fabric of Hong Kong.

On a separate note, as Arts for Good continues to seek collaborations in pursuit of constructive outcomes in our community, I am very excited to welcome Dr. Glenn Hui, who is an expert in public policy, impact assessment and value creation measurement, to join the team. We deeply believe Dr. Hui will be instrumental in formulating a strategic impact framework and developing assessment tools that will help us consolidate and scale to improve in 2023.

Best regards,
Amanda H Sun

Continued Venue Support from The Mills

We are grateful to continue to receive venue support from The Mills. Our next creative art making process is scheduled for 3-6 April 2023. We are currently seeking collaborations in order to continue to illuminate points of connection and shared humanity values in our community while also raising awareness of and generating creative initiatives for further social impact in Hong Kong.

Supporting Organization of " Future City Summit, Hong Kong"

The Future City Summit (the “FCS” / the “Annual Meet”) is an annual meeting hosted by the Good City Foundation, supported by 35 City Partners across Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America.

It is our honour to be invited as one of the supporting organisations of FCS. We will join the 7th Future City Summit on 13th December (registration here). The event is also supported by Invest Hong Kong, HK Economic and Trade Office, Hong Kong Science Park, and Tsangs Group.

We hope to contribute our humble opinions and throw light on how of art and culture serves as a force for social impact. We also hope to contribute to the summary of insights, which will result from the Annual Meeting and will be submitted for consideration as part of the next city branding of Hong Kong. The summery of insights will guide the way how FCS re-calibrates Hong Kong's branding around such themes as the city experience, the need for youth talents, the investment experience, and learning and cultural opportunities.

Harness the Power of Art and Culture in Social Impact

We thank Dream Impact for giving us the opportunity on their 5th anniversary celebration. We leveraged this opportunity to host an art viewing workshop with five university students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and four representatives from various NGOs.

We introduced the artist Frank Tang Kai-Yiu and led the audiences to view his art through a civic lens and connect with each other through historical stories and personal reflections that the art gave rise to. This process explores unique identities and learning relationships between the arts and civic lives of each individual and our communities. We appreciate the connections established with the audiences after the event and hope they give rise to further opportunities to advocate for the importance of our work and the values to their communities.

We would also like to thank the young artist Man Shek (IG: manmade.hk) who supported us by leading a relaxing Nagomi art-making experience for corporate ESG staff at Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden during the event.

Education Projects - Content Development

We are excited to launch the Art Viewing Education Project 2023 and the Sound Art Cross Generation Inclusion Project. These two projects, like others, aim to foster unique perspectives, provoke deeper thinking, inspire boundless imagination, and enhance storytelling skills among students in Hong Kong.

We want to send our deepest gratitude to the supports from the galleries, as well as the six young videographers and editors (i.e. David Mo, Wang Shi, Ivan Lin, Heidy Cheung, Augustine Wong, and Anabelle Fong), and five poetry enthusiasts (i.e. Eugene Yung Chian, Jamie Ng, Krissy Yip, Blake Kwok, and Brad Doo), who helped us prepare and develop the content this month.
